Competition
Join us for our annual Essence of Belly Dance competition, Friday September 27, 2024 in Atlanta, GA where contestants from all over the world compete to win some wonderful prizes. The competition is evaluated by some of the amazing instructors of 2024! Our 2024 competition is open to all styles of MENAHT (Middle East, North Africa, Hellas, Turkey) and Transnational Fusion dance. It's an opportunity to showcase your skills and gain invaluable constructive feedback from some of the top belly dancers of our time. In addition to the fantastic prizes listed below, competitors will receive live feedback from judges during the competition.
Competition registration will remain open until 8:00am EDT Friday September 13, 2024. Each category will have a set number of spots open for registration and once they fill up, the category will be closed. All registered dancers will compete on Friday September 27, 2024.

3 CATEGORIES
Essence Soaring (Professional/Advanced) - Belly Dancers with proficiency in Middle Eastern Dance (all stylizations of Belly Dance). We will have 2 tracks for this category: Raqs Sharqi (Classical Egyptian Belly Dance, “oriental dance”) and Fusion (Modern Western-inspired style of Belly Dance)
Essence Rising (Advanced Beginner/Intermediate)- A very supportive and friendly competition for the advanced beginner/intermediate level Belly Dancer! We will have 2 tracks for this category: Raqs Sharqi (Classical Egyptian Belly Dance, “oriental dance”) and Fusion (Modern Western-inspired style of Belly Dance)
Just Dance Improv Challenge (All Levels) - In this category, registered competitors will be assigned a piece of music 48 hours prior to the show. No fancy costumes! Just Dance!
Interested in competing in more than 1 category? You must choose between Essence Soaring (Professional Dancer) Essence Rising (Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Dancer), and can also compete in Just Dance! You must register for each style and pay a soloist fee of $25 for each competition spot.

Soloists:
Soloists will perform their own unique 3 minute choreography Friday September 27, 2024. Soloist participants will be scored on their performance from 0-100 points. The winner of the solo category will be the dancer who has the highest average score from all the judges. The maximum total points that a soloist can receive is 100 points based on their performance. All soloists must be registered for at least 6 hours of Essence 12 workshops.

SCORING:
Show your range of dance proficiency! Judges will be looking for a range of skills: technique, musicality, costuming, stage presence and more! All props welcome (except fire props!) Scoring sheet will be posted soon.
